First of all, I’m excited to share that our Canadian edition of Progressive Dairyman officially has its own website. After a month-long process, our web team successfully designed and transferred all of our material to a new website.

Previously, our digital editions and articles had a page on Progressive Dairyman’s website, which houses the content for our U.S. edition.

We did it! Now we’re all Canada, all the time at www.canada.progressivedairy.com

I invite you to take some time to peruse the site. You’ll find any article we’ve ever published, making it a great resource to find that topic you remember reading about but fear you threw away the magazine.

You’ll also see regularly updated news items in our News section and be able to keep up with upcoming events in the Events tab.

Here are a few upcoming events I’d like to highlight for you.

• Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, Sept. 11-13, (click here for information) – The largest agricultural trade show in Canada, this event will soon begin to take shape at Canada’s Outdoor Park in Woodstock, Ontario.

Plans are for moldboard ploughing, manure spreader and safety demonstrations, as well as the popular side-by-side robotic milking system demonstrations.

Don’t forget to stop by the Grober Young Animal Development Centre to see the latest in calf research. Watch for more about these show features in our next issue.

• Dairy Cattle Welfare Symposium, Oct. 24-26 – Progressive Dairyman is proud to be a sponsor of this international three-day symposium dedicated to the welfare of dairy cattle.

Learn from nationally and internationally renowned keynote speakers and network with dairy producers, researchers, veterinarians and other industry professionals from all over the world at this event in Guelph, Ontario. Read more about it on page 3 and start making your plans to attend.

• World Holstein Conference, Nov. 4-7, (click here for information) – Canada will have an opportunity to showcase its dairy industry to the world during this international event.

Held every four years, the World Holstein Conference will be centered in Toronto, Ontario, with advance tours held in Ontario and Quebec. After a two-day symposium, participants have the opportunity to take part in the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

• Canadian Dairy XPO, Feb. 6-7, at (click here for information) – Plans for another world showcase event were announced earlier this summer.

A brand-new tradeshow geared specifically for dairy will be held in 2013 in Stratford, Ontario. Event planners are also working on a world-class speaker program, robotic milking showdown, working cow showcase and evening social. See page 6 for more details.

After months and months of planning, I can imagine the organizers of these events will have their own “We did it” moment once they are finished.

On a personal note, I began the year sharing that I was working to acquire some land. Well, we did it!

In late June, after a long ordeal with the sellers’ family trust, we signed the papers to purchase the 36 acres around our home.

Best wishes and congratulations to all of you on your own “We did it!” accomplishments.  PD
